Does my pet need vaccinating?

Vaccinations are a proven , safe and effective way to keep your dog healthy by protecting them from many highly contagious and possible fatal diseases. The major diseases that SSVC will protect your dog against include canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus and infectious tracheobronchitis (Canine Cough). Vaccinating puppies and maintaining immunity in adult dogs through booster vaccination , is highly recommended.

Nobivac Vaccines

At SSVC , we recommend your dog receives 3 puppy vaccinations ,and then an annual booster initially. After this , your dog’s vaccine schedule will be tailored to their needs.

WHAT IS NEW?

Vaccines are now available to protect your dog against distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus for three years. At SSVC , we have been using these vaccines as part of our tailored vaccine schedule for your pet since we opened. Some vaccines still need to be given annually but vaccinating against every disease each year is not necessary.

WHAT DOES MY DOG NEED ?

At SSVC , we will tailor a vaccination schedule to suit your dog’s needs. There are many factors that will influence the recommendations for your dog including :
Indoor vs outdoor , travel plans, kennel/boarding plans, social contact with other dogs, pre – existing infections or diseases, local prevalence of disease , age and breed.
Please speak with Jasmin or Sarah to discuss your dog’s  needs.

MY DOG HAS HAD A PUPPY SHOT, DOES IT NEED ANYMORE?

Recently , we have found that a lot of people think their dog is protected after only having 1 vaccination as a pup. Wrong!! One vaccination will not protect your dog and leaves them at risk of catching parvovirus. There has been a major outbreak of parvovirus over the last few months, and it only ever affects those dogs that have not been adequately vaccinated. Please vaccinate your dog ,as parvovirus is a horrible way for your dog to die.

WHAT ABOUT CATS?

Cats need to be have an annual health check also.
Presently , the vaccines that are available for cats are only registered for annual use.
Did you know that you can vaccinate against Feline Immunodeficiency virus (FIV- feline AIDS) now?

Please ask any of our helpful staff for more information on your pet’s ideal vaccine schedule.

At SSVC you receive caring, friendly, efficient service, by a professional team, giving you and your pet the personal attention and time that you deserve.
